AEDC ~ Fuel Cells

The  AEDC Fuel Cell

The fuel cells are designed to deliver uninterrupted power for up to 240 hrs. The typical output is 12 Volt DC, 4000 Watt hours with a maximum energy draw of 5 Amps. A short term draw of 2.5 amps is continuous.

Fuel cells are ideal for non grid electrification in rural areas and outdoor use for camping and providing basic energy for a variety of applications. The replacement of the anodes is done manually in the field, does not require special tools and can be done within 15 minutes. The fuel cells are environmentally friendly and do not produce waste or toxic components.

The fuel cell set is contained in a carry case with plug outlet for the ready box which regulates the current and incorporates various functions, such as cell phone charger, auxiliary power outlet, Volt meter, light and the on and off switch.

The fuel cells can power any appliances that require a 12 Volt DC power supply and do not consume more than 35 Watt of energy.  In the event of more Watt output being required, additional sets may be coupled in parallel. This will increase the existing output to the required wattage. For example, the fridge we supply requires 60 Watt, 12 Volt DC and therefore will require 2 sets of 12 Volt fuel cells coupled in parallel.

General accessories available for the fuel cells that are supplied by AEDC include:

  • Various high efficient 12 Volt DC lights for indoor and outdoor use.

  • Ready box, that includes a volt meter, cell phone charger, auxiliary power outlet plug (12 Volt DC), a light with separate on / off switch and a main switch.

  • 2 types of B/W TV sets: 12 cm screen size with integrated radio, 37 cm screen size, no radio.

  • A TV amplifier to increase reception in rural areas with weak signal.

  • A colour TV with DVD player is available. This unit has a flat 10” LCD screen is fully portable and can also play audio CD disks.

  • A fridge with 24 litre capacity reducing ambient temperature by 20 to 25°C.

  • A deep freeze which operates at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

  • A flat screen LCD monitor with computer and P.C. operation. 1 set of fuel cells required to operate the P.C. and screen for approximately 80 hrs before replacement of anodes is required.

  • A sewing machine that operates for about 100hrs before an anode replacement has to be made. The sewing machine operates on 220Volt A/C and has different stitch settings, foot pedal control and a light (2 sets of fuel cells required).

  • An anti Malaria vaporizer unit, which is built-in in a special ready box. This unit operates the heating unit of the vaporizer for a period of 35 days and is totally automatic.  The user has peace of mind for protection especially during the night.

  • Hair cutters that operate with an inverter (220 V A/C).

  • Glue heat guns that operate with an inverter (220 V A/C).

  • 12 Volt DC soldering iron (30 Watt).

  • Various inverters with different power outputs changing 12 Volt DC to 220 Volt A/C.

  • A 12 Volt DC battery charger to charge led acid batteries with a current supply of 3 to 4 Amps per hour.

FUEL CELLS CANNOT:

  • The fuel cells cannot operate any 220V A/C appliance without an inverter.

  • The fuel cells are not suitable for cooking (alternative solution available in the form of ethanol gel), heating (alternative solution available in the form of ethanol gel) or any other appliance that requires a high current.

  • The ideal operating conditions for our fuel cell sets in parallel configuration should not exceed a draw of more then 250 Watts (8 fuel cell sets of 12 Volt DC delivering through an inverter: 250 Watt, 220 Volt AC, peak short time 300 Watt).

Thermal solution:

The company supplies an ethanol based gel manufactured from sugar cane waste.  This gel is safe, has no toxic fumes and a similar heat value then paraffin.

It is ideal for cooking and heating.
