CHUNGA CAMP PROJECT ~ Zambia

In the Kafue National Park, in one of the most isolated, almost inaccessible parts of Zambia lies the breathtakingly beautiful village, Chunga. It has all the ingredients of a typical, happy rural community but with one major disadvantage – they have no services, specifically electricity.

A current and key project in Zambia will provide mobile phone coverage where no network is likely to go in the near future.  AEDC will provide fuel cells for lights and lap tops for education are being provided for the learners. AEDC fuel cells will also power street lights as well as anti-mosquito units, developed in conjunction with S.C. Johnson. The AEDC fuel cells provide basic energy 24/7 with NO carbon footprint and are manually rechargeable in the field; they are therefore a renewable energy with no negative environmental impact.

Based on our new marketing model, Capitec Bank will offer affordable micro loans to qualifying persons, earning R1,500 per month or more. We are targeting for now the Ekurhuleni area that comprises some 136 000 informal dwellings that have no electricity.  We are setting up 9 franchises in Ekurhuleni and have 3 franchise holders already committed to take up franchise agreements.
