Vegetable Garden Project

AEDC has established a vegetable garden project near the fuel cell service shop in Guyuni, Limpopo. The vegetable garden is supplied with waste water from the de-ionized water plant, that is used to make the electrolyte in the service shop.

Some of the waste zinc oxide, produced when changing the used anodes to new ones in the fuel cells, is used as high value fertilizer in the vegetable garden. The results of this total recycling of waste material has created a value added and sustainable employment for one person who is looking after the vegetable garden.

New seeds are planted every 14 days in order to produce a constant supply of vegetables all year round.

AEDC has created job opportunities for 31 women and men in Guyuni by setting up a sewing, beading and embroidery project.

The women and men are trained in art, sewing, embroidery and bead work.  They produce unique rural art that is marketed to corporate and private entities, both locally and internationally.  This sustainable employment has improved the quality of life, created disposable income and reduced the unemployment in the village by 15%.
